A little excited over growth in my garden

On my daily mooch around the garden, I have got a little excited as new stuff is happening in my garden. This always gets me excited as it means that I’m either doing something right, or nature is just getting with it regardless of what I do!

The main reason why I’m all excited is because my potatoes have appeared above the soil surface. Having never grown potatoes, I am really happy to see that I am doing something right. Having grown up eating potatoes (and many other types of veg) from my grandparent’s garden, it is a reminder of many happy childhood memories at their house as much as it is about the food that I’ll hopefully be eating in a few months time.

I don’t have any sign of dahlias appearing above the soil surface yet, but it can take at least two weeks for the tubers to germinate, if not more. I’m hoping that there is some sign of life over the next week or so as I’m also a dahlia-growing novice. It will be nice to have some showy flowers in my garden, which is why I chose to grow them.

All my other plants are growing well still. I now have plenty of sweetcorn, peas and pumpkins (I appear to have three of these seedlings) all growing well. The seedlings that were potted up at the weekend are all clearly happier with a bit more space for their roots. There isn’t any sign of the seeds I sowed on the weekend, but I rarely see seeds germinate that quickly, if at all.

Sweetcorn and peas-a great combination!

Over the coming weekend, I will be potting up a lot of my seedlings into their final pots for them to grow into their final sizes and hopefully produce plenty of flowers and food. Other seedlings will also be potted up into bigger pots from the seed raising mix their seeds were sown in, as the seedlings need better nutrition than that potting mix can provide for them.

These seedlings will get potted up over the coming weekend

Anyway, that’s enough rambling about my little garden for a Tuesday evening. I enjoyed my little potter around after work. I also had the help of Cuddles the cat this evening-she loves coming outside with me to ‘help’ in the garden!

Cuddles-finds rolling around in the sun wanting tummy tickles is a great help in the garden!
