Flower Friday-15/08/25

It’s that time of the week again where I talk about my flowers of the week. It’s been another calm and uneventful week so far, but being Friday morning means that could change quite quickly! So what have I seen this week?

Photinia flowers are always delicate and pretty. The plant itself is a tree that is often used as a hedge. The new growth on it is always a bright red colour which is always attractive against the dark green of older leaves.

Just because I love this magnolia (it’s my favourite), here are the flowers of Magnolia x soulangeana has such pretty pink flowers that appear in August (the last month of winter here in Sydney) before the leaves appear in the spring. I really do like this tree a lot.

Rhododendron flowers are always a lovely flower to see in a garden. I do, however, have an issue with the plant as a whole here in Sydney. No matter where I have seen them, they have suffered from lace bug on the leaves which makes them look terrible. The only way to deal with lace bug is to use pesticides, something that I really don’t like using.

Bougainvillea is lovely when you don’t have to look after it, or see it from afar, as these flowers show. Thankfully, this one isn’t mine to care for-so I can just enjoy the flowers!

Camellias are always good to have around, especially at this time of year, with flowers like these.

Camellia-pretty in pink!

Agave flowers are fab-this week I have red-orange and yellow. I also love the shape of these flowers too.

I don’t see Plectranthus ‘Mona Lavander’ very often at all, but it is a really nice plant with both leaves and flowers being good looking in the landscape.

Here is the hibiscus flower again, just because I love the colour of these flowers.

Hibiscus flowers are always a favourite of mine.

Finally for today are the flower buds, and one open flower, of Kalanchoe fedschenkoi. This plant is rather common around where I live, mainly because it’s a set and forget sort of plant that is happy to be getting on with stuff with no fuss.

That is my week in plants, and overall a fairly good one. I am starting to feel more positive again in my work, which is even better as the past year has been a tough one!
