Spring is in the air…just!

Around this time each year, late July/early August, there is a slight hint of spring in the air. The days have started getting longer and there is a little less of a chill in the morning.

What does this mean for my gardening? Well, the exciting thing is, of course, that I will soon be able to sow tomato, chilli, capsicum and other summer vegetable seeds. All these are vegetables that I love to eat at home. I’m also going to sow some flower seeds too, but can’t remember what’s on my list right now (and my notebook is out of reach due to cuddling a cat-one of the best ways to spend time in my opinion).

Tomatoes are a favourite

Either way, my home gardening will be fun again, once my seed raising potting mix turns up. I will be sowing my summer vegetable seeds early this year and keeping them inside at first to see if I can do better than last year!

Work gardening is different, so, so different. I am already getting my head into the head space it needs to be in to be hot, sweaty and really not wanting to be out in the ridiculous heat at the height of summer.

These will definitely be on my to-sow list

The scale of the work is also so much more as everything just grows so quickly. It’s a constant tail-chasing exercise that you always feel like you are loosing! That’s the nature of the job and hard work can be a good thing.

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the last bit of cold weather of winter and I always enjoy spring with the new signs of life it brings. I’ll also enjoy the last of my hugs with my dear little cat, as it is too hot in summer for such things.
