I am a member of The Diggers Club here in Australia. As part of this membership, I can get some free seeds every so often. I received my chosen seeds this week.
The first is a packet of seeds for flowering plants preferred by bees. As frequent readers will know, I love watching the bees on flowers, so I thought this would be perfect to do so at home.

There is an option to choose a random packet of vegetable seeds that come as a bit of a surprise when you get those seeds. This time I got some kale. I may have to work on encouraging my husband who does most of the cooking to give it a go-I’ll let you know how I get on with that one.

Leeks are a great vegetable that we haven’t had much of in recent years. I am a huge fan of leek and potato soup, so my thinking was to get some leek seeds and enjoy some soup.

Finally, I have this little great little garden helper called Cuddles the cat. As part of her ‘duties’ she deems it necessary to sometimes chomp on my plants that I have growing. While I font generally mind if these plants are not poisonous to her, but I’d rather she didn’t. That’s why I got my dear little helper som pet grass. As she can be a rather contrary madam, she may well ignore this, but I hope she enjoys it more than other plants I have growing out in my garden.

Here is the mischievous fur ball that loves to help. As you can see, butter would not melt.

That’s all for now, but I have a few things to do out in the garden, along with sowing these seeds.

Oooh! A heat tolerant kale! With our short growing season and much colder climate, kale usually does well for people, and actually tastes better after being hit with frost. We’re not really fans of kale, and I haven’t been able to successfully grow it (I think the slugs got the seedlings before I ever saw them), but we’ve made kale chips in the past, and those are quite nice.
Leeks are something I want to grow in the near future, when we have more beds established. Love leek and potato soup!
Your fur ball helper is adorable.
The kale chips are a good idea-I’ll try growing some kale and see how I get on.
Cuddles is indeed adorable, but does cause a fair amount of mischief too!
