My day at work

Going about my work on a daily basis allows me to observe certain things in gardens. This is usually related to either design or installation of certain aspects of the garden components.

One of these is irrigation pipe work. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be there, quite the opposite here in Sydney-it should be put into any new garden and retrofitted into older ones where possible. The issue is that pipes are sometimes put into places that are a bit odd.

Take the pipe running across the base of the trunk in the photo. I don’t know how long it’s been there but it got put in well after the tree got to be that big. Why the irrigation was laid this, I do not know (probably laziness, but who knows?). It wouldn’t have taken much effort to lay the irrigation pipe further out from the trunk of the tree. It is also a waste of water, as there are no roots around this section of pipe, so the water will just dribble out uselessly (its drip irrigation, meaning you get a drip of water out the holes every so often, from the little hole on the pipe).

Things like this really annoy me because all it takes is a little more care in laying the pipe a little further from the trunk and you wouldn’t see it on the ground unless you were looking for it. So, please just lay your irrigation pipes properly-don’t be lazy and do it with care and you won’t have me moaning!

On the brighter side, I did see what looks like a yellow ladybird today. I thought it was a nice change to the usual red ones. I love looking at bugs, insects and wildlife when I’m out and about.
