It’s all about the natives today

Today, I have been doing some work in the native garden of my new workplace. How this new work environment works is rather weird, and far from perfect, but it is better than the old one. The benefits of this new place are that I get left alone to get on with the work and it’s more relaxed.

The first three photos are of a lemon-scented gum, or Corymbia citriodora. The genus Citriodora is closely related to the genera Eucalyptus and Angophora. I just love the crown shape and the bark of this tree.

Kangaroo paws are a fun plant to come across. The binomial name is Anigozanthos flavidus according to my plant identification app, which is the best I have at this moment. A colourful, quirky plant that is rather fun to have around.

Grevilleas are another genus of Australian natives that I love. I have two to show you today. The first one is Grevillea lanigera or woolly grevillea. Pale pink and white flowers are quite nice.

While grevillea flowers are the same, they also vary-the flower below is lot bigger and the colours are different. The leaves of grevilleas vary more than the flowers, as you can hopefully see.

This is a she-oak, in either one of two genera-Allocauserina or Causerina. I don’t know the exact species, but this is a ground cover species rather than a tree.

The last thing I will talk about today is the weather. Today the forecast high for today, at work, is 42 degrees Celsius. The stats below are as I write while drinking water in the shade. I am struggling today, which will be the hottest of the summer so far.

With thanks to the Bureau of Meteorology, Australia

Awful weather, it really is. Good plants though, and no doubt a good sleep tonight!
