Friday flowers

As normal, I like to share plant related picture on a Friday-from 3pm it’s the weekend and that is something that I’m grateful for by the time it appears every week (and that’s getting more so as time goes by).

H I had to include this photo of these roses, they do look good. There isn’t really a lot more to say than that, so I’ll let them do the talking!

I hope that you can see the little critter in this photo. Look at the black pole, slightly above the leaves and you should find it. I’ve no clue what it is, but it was nice to see.

Meterosiderous flowers are lovely, well the whole plant is really. The nest three photos are all from the same plant. One of my favourites (though I do have loads of those!).

I may be a bit weird, but I find the skin/shell (not sure what you call it) of cicadas fascinating. While not the prettiest of things, I enjoy looking at stuff like this. It’s easy to ignore insects and all the things they do in the world-especially the good that doesn’t get the headlines in the same ways the bad does. If you see insects in the garden, just sit and watch. They aren’t scary or creepy, they are actually really interesting in their strange looks!

The yesterday-today-tomorrow plants have mostly stopped flowering now that summer is here, but there is still a few lovely purple around.

Murraya is such a common hedge plant here in Sydney. The flowers are really pretty and smell great. Bees love them too. I just wish some were allowed to grow into trees, they are lovely like this too.

Agapanthus flowers are always pretty, but I actually took the photo because of the ladybird in the amongst the individual flower stalks. I love ladybirds, that are one of my favourite insects. If I see them, I’m always happy to leave them be and do my flower dead heading or whatever else I’m supposed to be doing later on. I would be criticised for this in certain circles (like my boss, and then be told to get myself sorted out) but these are helpful little critters to have around and that is a good thing to encourage.

Finally, these lemon myrtle flowers are super pretty. This tree is struggling, mainly due to compacted soil from where cars park next to it, but it has nice flowers. Try telling them if I see the responsible party, and I’d get looks of disgust and ‘I don’t care’ (I work at a private school, it’s often like that where gardeners are the proper common plebs) and probably be told to wind my neck in for my trouble too!

At least it’s Friday. I’m plodding on with plodding on and I will get to where I’m going eventually and that will suit me down to the ground. On that note, I wish you a good weekend.
