There comes a point in life when you just have to start changing things in your life and now is that time for me. I could talk about the ins and outs of why I’m at this point, but in all honesty, I’m over thinking about it! I can either start cracking on with changing my life or stay stuck where I am to get bitter and twisted (which I don’t want!).
I am going to work towards working for myself. I can’t afford just to quit my current job so I have to start while I’m still doing this job, the moving forward is the important part.
The first step of this is starting to write paid newsletters here on my blog, starting last Sunday which was on rain gardens. I have another couple of things I want to write about rain gardens over the next couple of weeks.
From there I’m moving onto some gardening history where I’ll talk about a given area of this wide topic and then talk about what we can still use in our gardens today, what is absolute nonsense and how the modern way of working in the same sort of area I’m talking about can be of help and hinderance. I will also talk about how this is of relevance to modern life. The historical topics I’m starting with include:
- Walled kitchen gardens
- How the ‘big veg’ growing completions started (based on the English quirks of this, but elsewhere too if it exists)
- The history of using allotments for growing in urban areas
While not exhaustive, this will keep me busy!
On most days, I’ll still be talking about my garden, plants and anything else that I usually talk about that won’t go behind any paywall at all. I do already have a great bunch of free subscribers too-I enjoy reading their work too and want that to continue.
Further into the future, if I get anywhere with my writing, I’ll be able to leave this employee status thing and then start doing proper gardening, along with teaching gardening in some form. How this will work is something for the future at this moment, but that’s the general direction I want to go in.
If you don’t want to become a paid subscriber, but want to contribute, please follow the link below. Many thanks n advance!
