What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?
The English are well known for apparently having really bland food, which I have to disagree with. I say this because when it is done properly with fresh ingredients, English food is great. This leads on to one of my family’s favourites, which is a good steak pie accompanied by your choice of potatoes-chips or mash are my favourite-with some sort of veg and there has to be gravy (being of northern extraction, gravy is like oxygen-an essential part of life!). The pie itself can be steak, steak and mushroom or steak and kidney, all taste good!
Equally good is Indian food. We all think that Indian food is fabulous stuff. I’ve never been to India, but I’ve always enjoyed the country’s food. The spices and flavours are so varied and different to the English diet that it is just great to try it all. On this, I can’t give a specific meal, it’s more the cuisine as a whole. If I decided that I wanted to be vegetarian, I’d end up eating mostly Indian food I think.
Pizza is the third meal. For my husband and son, this is probably top, for me Indian is top, but followed closely by pizza! Who can say they don’t like pizza-if you do, you are either lying or you have some issues that need sorting. Today, there are so many differs types of pizza, you can’t go wrong. According to my husband and son, proper pizza from Naples in Italy will never be beaten! One day, I’ll get to the city myself to see if that’s true.

I’m a nerd for food history, and just had to comment about the reputation of English food. A lot of what are now considered iconic French dishes or techniques, actually originated in England – while a lot of iconic English dishes actually originated from France!
That is really interesting-I knew that the French have had an influence on English food, but not the other way round. That is such a good bit of history so thank you! I’m going to have to do a bit of reading now.
