This week has finally been getting more like summer and with that the humidity has gone higher, which is always awful. Dry heat is easier to deal with than humidity, but Sydney is humid place in the summer months. Beyond the humidity though, it’s nice to be getting the warmer days again and to see plants and flowers growing and thriving again.
There are some plants that grow far quicker than others, plumbago being one of them-I’d say it’s the most ridiculous plant for growth I care for at work. Blink and it’s grown again! Thankfully, the flowers are rather pretty.

The ripe fruits the blue flax lily are a great blue colour. They are almost better looking than the flowers. This is actually the first time I be seen these ripe berries before, even though I have seen the plant everywhere I have worked over the past six years or so.

I have another bee picture, taken this morning. As you may have gathered, I do have a thing for watching bees do their thing. I just find them fascinating little creatures, who do so much for us to live our lives while we barely do anything in return.

It’s the same with other wildlife that lives with us in our cities. At the moment, many birds here in Sydney are busy feeding their chicks, which is so good to see. While these birds seem to find food ok, I often wonder what they do about water. I say this as I often see birds getting water from dripping taps dotted around the outsides of buildings. I would love to have some sort of pond or little bird baths dotted around the place, but I doubt that request would get anywhere!
At home, I have decided on a few things that I want to do when the builders have finished (they still haven’t disappeared from my patio or bathroom). Of course, I want to grow my veg and flowers. I have also decided that I’m going to fashion. Little bird bath type thing , where birds, and insects, can come and have a drink as they need.
As there are things that will never get anywhere at work for a large number of reasons, I’m going to give things a go at home where I can. You can only preach something if you have a go yourself and then you can say what works for you-my little bird bath is the first thing I’ll try.
I’m also going to, eventually, get myself set up with some sort of propagation area with a table, etc. This will make it a lot easier to do my seed sowing and any other propagating that I do-it will also dave my knees!
While my plans aren’t going to happen tomorrow, I have the chance to plan them in around my job and my studies. I will have to be strict with myself so I can fit it all in, but I really want start using skills that I don’t use at work but should so I’ll practice at home!
