Today was my last day working at the school I’ve been working at for almost two years. From Monday I will be working at another school that I have worked at for a brief six weeks two years ago. For me, there are mixed feelings of both sadness that I’ve left one place and excitement at seeing what I can do at another.

I have to sat that there is a lot of relief at moving at the moment. A lot of this has been due to dealing with people and their dramas. It is an unfortunate thing that people add drama that is unnecessary and I have go to the point where I just don’t want to deal with that, which is where the new school is great-I am the boss of me and me only. I don’t have to deal with other egos in the way that I have for the past few months and, more specifically, the past six weeks. I have found it rather hard.

I have a fair bit of sadness as the school I have just left was a good place to work, the people were mostly decent and, in slightly different circumstances, I wouldn’t have felt the need to leave. In terms of the horticultural work, it was varied enough to keep me interested, especially during the summer.,

As has it has probably always been, the more introverted people, like me, still need to deal with people at work, even if we would be quite happy to stick with the plants and nothing else. I will hopefully be happier now and a lot less grumpy, with my smile coming back more at work.

No matter where I work, I still love my plants. I love looking at, and learning about, plants. They fascinate me in the why, how, where and what of how they function. The variety there is in plants from all over the world is endlessly interesting to me and, while I have to work to earn my living-I can still read of their quirks, even if I can’t see them in person.

It’s my love of plants and working outdoors that keeps me in this horticulture work. I can’t ever imagine working in an office at any point, the idea of sitting still for a day is awful!
