Flowers and wildlife on a Friday

The end of my working week has been a bit of a wet one this week, but it has been a relief that it’s been cooler rather than hot and humid! I am rather happy that it’s the weekend as it has been yet another busy week-I don’t have quiet weeks, but I’d rather this than quiet and boring as I don’t like sitting still at all.

In this first picture is a kookaburra, an iconic Australian bird. I love these birds-they are generally quite happy to sit watching you go about your business while swooping down for the odd worm or two.

Next is the flower of Canna indica. I quite like them, although they can be a little weedy at times. The key is to keep it under control by removing any small plants that grow where you don’t want them, as they appear.

Purple flowers are always a favourite. This Osteospermum has been pumping out these fabulous purple flowers.

Here we have a random bug that I came across. It is potentially an assassin bug in the genus Pristhesancus.

Finally, I have a picture of an immature seed pod from the tree Castanospermum australe. I have written about this tree before, and I like everything about it, from the glossy green leaves, the orange flowers, the shade it provides on a hot sunny day and the fact that has pods that are massive. I like the slightly quirky, random things in nature!
