Nature out and about

While out yesterday, I was enjoying being out in the spring sunshine surrounded by plants. In Sydney there is a certain smell in the air from the oils from trees leaves that I think is one of the best smells going. I could smell this yesterday. As I’ve lived here for nearly twelve years now and I don’t always notice it anymore, so when I do smell it, it puts a smile on my face.

I always love it when I see a plant getting ready to flower, especially when it’s a Corymbia sp. of tree with bright pink to red flowers that will be coming my way soon! Below are the flower buds that won’t be long from showing off one open.

I have lived in Australia for almost twelve years now and I’m still amazed by trees that lose their outer bark every single year and not die in the process. Below is the peeling bark of what I think is Angophora costata, or the Sydney red gum, one of my all-time favourite trees. I also love the differing colours in the old grey bark compared to the orange-red of the new bark.

Below is a picture of another species of gum tree. I’m not sure of the exact species but it is a Eucalyptus tree. Again, this has peeling bark.

Just because I love the colours, here are some flowers. They aren’t native to Australia but still look good!

Lastly, here are the almost blue fruits of a species of Dianella, a genus often called flax lily. They are native to Australia.
