Highlights on a cloudy day

In Sydney, the weather is overcast with a bit of rain here and there. Also, it’s a Monday so I am getting some plant photos out there, mainly because I can!

A kookaburra, chilling on some football nets

While the above photo is of a kookaburra on a football/soccer goal is not a plant, these birds are one of my favourites in Australia. He (or she) as happy as Larry, not bothered that we were trying to take the nets down after the weekend games.

Magnolia x soulangeana

When the above magnolia starts to flower in Sydney, you know that spring is not far away. Plus, the flowers are always amazing and come out before the leaves appear on the tree.

Doryanthes excelsa flowers opening up

Doryanthes excelsa is a quirky native of Australia that I like too. While the flowers in the above photo are not fully open, they are well on their way to being so.

Chaenomeles japonica

The above Japanese quince is another plea t they signifies that spring is on its way, withe it’s red flowers providing a contrast to its bare branches.
